Japanese House

Japanese are well known for their technology, their culture and their philosophy of life. Their view in life in general is shown trough their daily live, their activity and their house. Japanese house, the traditional one mostly although the modern ones cannot be forgotten are quite simple on the surface yet they display quite complex structure in the build.

Harmony is the one theme you can find in Japanese house. Nothing is wasted, everything has value. Such is an ideal Japanese house.

The main structure in Japanese house is wood, they are quite sturdy, flexible, cheap and pliable. The reason for this kind of material used since the ancient time is because Japan is often strike by lots of natural disasters. Tsunami, Earthquake, Typhoon happen often. These materials has proven to be quite resilient against nature force.

Japanese house also fond of their organic material. The first thing is of course the wood structure made from pine, cedar, fir and cypress. After that you got the Mulberry paper for the shoji and the sliding door or wall.

Bamboo are used both as a material of the house and also as a decoration, they also be used as fences. And then you got the tatami, It’s a type of floor mattress woven from the grass. Isn’t that awesome? They use grass to make their house. Lastly, they use natural stone as the house foundation.

In japan, they use Tatami as to measure a house. Tatami are usually the size of regular man in Japan. There also proportion and hierarchy in Japanese house design. For example, Master bedroom are usually the largest in the house, room for entertainment purpose are mainly larger than the other room.

Sometime Japanese house has a different wings for different function. A big traditional Japanese house complex can have several building which serve different purpose. .
