Interior decorating or designing is all about finding a place for everything. Proper arrangement of furniture in a small space can make a whole lot of difference. Of course, when you’re tied with a not-so-wide-space, try to avoid putting too much things at one time. The first important thing to consider when decorating a long and narrow living room is to provide enough space for foot traffic. Nothing is more annoying than having to hit everyone sitting on the couch on your way to the bathroom.

Consider the foot traffic. It should be your major concern. So here are ideas on how you can provide enough space for people to move around. Keep the foot traffic to one side. Avoid putting foot traffic in between the sofa and a coffee table. It’s not comfortable and frankly, it will be annoying. If you have to arrange furniture perpendicular to the room to make space for foot traffic, do so.

You may also want to consider arranging the furniture on a corner. This creates an open space where foot traffic will be flawless. Don’t be tempted to add more furniture to make more seating available. While it creates more seating, it won’t work for a long and narrow living room design.
